The Untouchable Record: Byron Nelson’s 11 in a Row

Byron Nelson and 1945 are always going to be an association many remember fondly. Winning 11 consecutive PGA Tour events set the record for the longest streak in PGA Tour history, but also defined what dominance on the course would look like.

It is worth noting that this was achieved in an era where equipment was unforgiving and travelling was something which took its toll on the players. For many, this streak is largely considered unbreakable. 

Tiger Woods: The Modern Master of Dominance 

Tiger became the modern king of streaks when he managed to achieve his seven straight wins between 2006 and 2007. Alongside this, Tiger held streaks of five and six all between 1999 and 2008.

For Tiger, the fact that he achieved this in an era where the fields on the circuit were the deepest in number and littered with world-class players. He looked and played like someone totally invincible. This could largely be the reason he is seen as the most dangerous closer in the game. 

The Hawk’s Hot Streak: Ben Hogan 

In 1948, the “Hawk” produced a 6-tournament winning streak which was seen as dividends paid on his relentless habits and ability to strike the ball with absolute clarity. Unfortunately, in 1949, Hogan was involved in a near-fatal car accident – a most tragic event which essentially emboldened his achievements even further. Incredibly, he achieved six more majors after his recovery. So, deservedly his streak ranks among the top three in our SB Market Index.

Byron Nelson simply stands head and shoulders among all the rest when comparing streaks. It is truly the image of total dominance and stands as an unbreakable record in the golfing world.

Tiger Woods deserves recognition though; he is the modern leader and arguably shifted the sport into its current dimension. Athleticism and precision coming together to ensure absolute sporting brilliance. These records will no doubt continue to inspire the next generation, and so they should.
