The match commenced with a display of O'Sullivan's flair as he executed an incredible first break to steal the initial frame from Yuelong. Despite the latter's solid 55 break, O'Sullivan's composed break of 67, navigating through a scattered group of reds, set the tone for the contest, establishing a 1-0 lead in favour of the Rocket.

Unphased, O'Sullivan continued his commanding performance with a sensational 107 break in the second frame, extending his lead to 2-0. However, Yuelong swiftly retaliated, demonstrating his skill with a brilliant 76 break to get himself back into the match, narrowing the score line to 2-1.

The fourth frame saw Yuelong eyeing the opportunity to match Shaun Murphy's highest break of the tournament. Unfortunately, a crucial missed red left his century break at 102, tying the game at 2-2. 

O'Sullivan then seized the opportunity to capitalize on Yuelong's mistake, strategically snookering him on a long red late in the frame. This tactical move allowed O'Sullivan to clean up the colors and regain a 3-2 advantage.

The resilient Yuelong, refusing to back down, took the game to a one-frame shootout. Displaying confidence and skill, he secured a break of 65, followed by a break of 56 in his second visit to the table, levelling the score at 3-3.

In the decisive seventh and final frame, O'Sullivan showcased his class under pressure. With a great break of 90, he secured victory, claiming the frame and the match 4-3. The win earned O'Sullivan a well-deserved spot in the last 8, setting the stage for an intriguing encounter against reigning Scottish Open champion, Gary Wilson in the next round.

O'Sullivan's triumph over Yuelong not only highlighted his exceptional skill and composure but also added another chapter to his storied career, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his continued journey in the World Grand Prix.
